Tata Indicom Broadband User Experience

After my awful experience with Sify, I decided to try out Tata Indicom. I was under the naive assumption that Sify’s franchise model and lack of any quality control on their franchisees is the reasons behind their pathetic existence. But Tata Indicom proved me wrong – they showed that even owning your own network with your own people managing it, is no reason to provide a bare minimum level of service.

Here is my track record with Tata Indicom Broadband.

  1. I applied for a connection on 10th of June, and paid money for their router based connection. I finally got it installed and working on 28th or 29th. Almost three weeks to get a connection! That is pathetic by any ISPs service. However, I was happy that my connection was up at least.
  2. For about 10 days the connection went well.
  3. From the third week onwards I started seeing losses in the last mile. I started actively monitoring the line quality using smokeping. Here is the graph for those few days.
  4. I file a complaint. There was a person here next day, and for a moment i was impressed. However, the impression was shortlived. The tech support guy listened to what I had to say, looked at my graphs, didn’t believe me, and started a ping from my computer to the local DSLAM peer. He saw the losses in line and said that he will escalate it to his senior.(Couldn’t this have been checked from the NOC itself?). But what happened later was priceless. The guy sat there at the computer and logged into his company trouble ticketing system and started making notes of his assignments for the rest of his day. After 15 minutes, I decided that I have been polite enough and told him to take his personal work elsewhere. He asked for two more minutes, and left after that.
  5. On 24th July, my line went down completely. I waited for it to come up, and finally filed a complaint on 25th morning that my link was down. What happened next was surreal. I kept calling up customer care, and they kept promising to send a reminder to the tech team, and assured that the problem will be solved with 24 hours. It has been eight 24 hours since then, and connection is still down. In between I got two calls from some lady who wanted to ask me independently if it is still down, and promised to send a guy to my place. I kept myself to the house all day, but nobody appeared.
  6. Today morning I got a call from another guy who asked me if my complaint about the losses in line(filed two weeks back) has been solved. If he had been physically in front of me, I would have strangled him.

What I didn’t realize while taking the connection, was that Tata Indicom Broadband is just Dishnet DSL with a new name, and it comes with Dishnet DSL’s renowed or shall we say notorious service record. Right now, in my last five weeks of subscription, the line has been unusable for two – that makes it a 20% downtime!

Oh yes, for all those on a bandwidth capped plan, watch out for Tata Indicom’s totally screwed up IP accounting! Thank good ness that I have an unlimited connection. Their account system actually shows that I have downloaded 5GB in these last five weeks that I have been a subscriber(remember? that I have actually used it for about two weeks?) The only heavy downloads I do is debian, windows and anti-virus security updates! And this is priceless – on 25th, when i filed a complaint about my line being down (which they acknowledged), I am supposed to have downloaded 150MB of data. Ofcourse, my reporting this got me another trouble ticket number, which I am pretty sure is right down in their list of priorities. But for those on a bandwidth capped account from them, … my sympathies.

I am again in the market looking for a good DSL provider, and I see none in the capital of the country! Keeping my fingers crossed, I looked at MTNL’s plans again .. but no, they still haven’t changed their laughable download limits in their plans (256kbps with a bandwidth cap of 400MB, anyone?)

Meanwhile I am spending hundreds every day on the dialup again, for the last one week.

I use Barti Aitel broadband. .The broad band speed is average but stable and the customer service is better than others. My friends told me that BSNL also equally good.

I got my tata indicom connection in the march 07 and so far nearly 20 - 25 times it would have got connected. More over everytime i have to get connected after contacting them through customer service, when i complain line gets connected in few minutes. But now days no posibilities of getting connection. In last one week i have post 5 complains and worst part is respontent from cusutomer service enjoy our conversation in speaker phone. A worst attitude of call centre and hope company wants / looking for same.

In one sentence "Very Pathetic Service...Dont go for it..."

I have read the pathetic experience of Tata broadband users. I am one of the victim and suffering like many others. I have not seen such a hopeless service provider. Complaints are not attended at all although the call centre personnel assure resolving problem within 24 hours. In case you have any enemy, I would suggest recommending Tata Broadband to him. Using Tata broadband is the biggest punishment one can ever have.

Even I had very bad experience with TATA INDICOM useless service providers, they can't improve from the mistakes they made.

You people were telling ur tataindicom broadband speed experience and i m sharing u my awful experience with tataindicom. In july, 2006 i had applied for the broadband connection thru internet cos according to them they are fully automated and they do as per so called hi-tech industry norms and as per them customers no need to keep on wasting their money in long Q in order to speak with the customer care so they had started solving all the query thru internet. So, I had also filed up a form in order to avial the broadband connectivity from the website http://myaccount.tataindicombroadband.in/MyAccount/ApplyNow.do. The system generated a enquiry no. for me which was 879165 and i had been asked to wait for next 72 hours meanwhile their sales and technical team will do the concern enquiry regarding the connection availabity and parameters in my area. but that 72 hours never came. they keep me on waiting.. i had written alot of mails but no reply even i had spoked with theh customer care but again they promise me to wait for 72 hours and then nothing had happened. Then i had re-registered myself for the broadband connection with my enquiry no. 868874 and imagine what the same story. now from july it is august but their 72 hours never came when i had complained them suddenly one day i got a shocking e-mail from the customerservise stating that i had requested to the sales teams to cancel my broadband connection. I was about to faint when i read this pathetic weired and stupid type of email from them and then i again wrote a email to them and spoke with the customer care keeping my vocal cord voice very raised and hard. Then he ha asked me to again registered for the broadband connection (for the third time and in the month of Septemer ). On 24th of september i had again register and the enquiry no. was 908332 and since till date again no news....

Same here, I just feel cheated by this Tata Indicom Guys. They layed out a cable within 2 days of me applying for it and I felt that their network ois really good. But this latsted only for couple of days as I had to get behind them to configure the network. After lot of calls being made to them their engineer called me up and asked me to configure the router and other network stuff on phone, And yes the internet stared working but the line was down within couple of days…and I have been calling up their customer care since then…I have already spent hundreds of rupees calling up these guys and the issue is not resolved. It has been more than a week nothing has been confirmed from their side…I feel like kicking myself for not having done the proper homework…I should have had checked on the internet about their service…and I am doing it now. So Please let your friends know wbout this and let them not fall Trap to these guys….

With regret I have to inform that I have been forced by your continuous negligence and non cooperation towards my complaint (complain no. 3716426) regarding the same, to begin with legal proceedings against your organization before Consumer forum.
It is to inform that my above mention connection is in a non working position from last 108hrs now; I have registered my complaint on 5th July 06 at 10:45pm. Due to this I have been suffering from lot of mental torture and loss of business heavily in monetary terms.
The best part about the entire episode is I have given 12 reminder calls to your customer care department and spoken to many irresponsible people like Hemant, Ganesh Pathak, Razza (he banged phone on me), seema, swati, ved, Abras (all CCE’s) and one of the supervisors Rinky Sen; but every body just assured me that they have send strong reminders to the technical team and the issue will be resolved in next 12 hrs, but every thing in vain. No body from any department even bothered to give me a call for once.
Above all the great Mr. Hemant lawaniya (Manager Operations as told for customer service) was not available in office form last two days and even doesn’t have time to talk to me for once. After asking for continuous appointment to speak to him from different executives and asked many times to give me a call back for once, this fellow didn’t call me up. I don’t understand that how your organization has hired people like him who don’t understand the ‘C’ of customer service.
I think that It would be very shameful to your organization to phase the legal proceeding before the court of consumer forum in reference to the complaint launched by me.
But anyhow you have forced me to do this and realize the amount of compensation regarding the mental torture and monetary loss occurred to me due to your negligence.
Still, I hope that you will send me a written apology regarding the same to me and get the connection working without any loss of time.

I got free vdata card with my hp laptop and Tata indicom has given the broadband connection on that, I have faced lot of problem with Tata indicom , they dont understand problem, no one is able to rectify problem, They dont attend call at all, I have winxp home edition, my vdata card is asking to dial #777(Tataindicom Gateway) number, actually it shud not happen, process is very simple it shud run without any configuration, then they told me to upgrade to Winxp prof.,

I use AirTel Adsl connection and i have to say they have the best service in the country. They have unlimited usage plans, they have one day service, they collect ur bill from homes for no extra charge. U will never face any problem & even if u do they repair it today itself or definately by 2moro. I have to say i am using Airtel from past 2 years now. I had 64kb unlimited plan then 128kb unlimited and now 256kb unlimited and i have never had major problem or any problem which was not repiared within 24 hours. I just had problem with my router which was replaced for no extra cost, other then that i cant remember any break downs i faced.

My problem is that I purchased a tata indicom walky to access internet and from the day one I am not able to connect to internet. I complained to the customer care on 19th jun 2006 and an engineer visited me on 20th, he told me that the COM port of my machine is not working properly. on 22nd I arranged and demonstrated to him that the COM port is perfectly fine and is working there is no problem with it then he promised me that he will be visiting me on sunday with a laptop to check the exact problem, which he never did, I raised another complaint and he visited me yesterday and said this problem is beyond his capabilities and somebody senior will be visiting. I just want to know when can I get my issues resolved, or should I say will I get this issue resolved.

I cant believe! a company like TATA INDICOMBROADBAND (VSNL)is dependent on bloody Local Cable Operators for installation and delevery of prepaid packages.I never got my prepaid pack on time whenever i required.Its pathetic!!!!! and really shamefull

I am facing same problems with Tata Indicom broadband!! Bloody assholes harrased me for paying in advance for connection! I paid for their 64 kbps line unlimited plan for 6 months in advanced.
They promiced me to give connection in 7 days. Now its over 40 days and still there is no connection. After a month r so, their engineer came and fixed up modem and line and asked me to convert my existing dial-up ID to broadband so I can get 50 mb mail box. So I did. After that both the accounts were locked for 2 days. I was not able to receive my regular business emails even on dial-up.
I fought with them hard, so they atlease started bak my dial-up account but till this date they have not activated my broadband connection, god knows why?
Their customer service is another issue. If you call up their service in Pune, it asks you to always call back as the wait time is 99% above 10 to 12 mins. If you still hang on, then after 10 mins there representative comes. Every time new one. So you have to repeat all the things again and again. Then all they do is to tell you that they have forwarded compaint and within 24 to 48 hrs, I will receive a call from their technical team. I never did.
I am so fade up witht them so I really used bad language one day and have asked them to cancel my connection, but till date there is no refund.
Now i am thinking of going to Police for fraud.
I did not know they are so pathetic!!!

I would like to share my horrifying experience with TATA INDICOM.
I got a TATA INDICOM Landline (080 56999107)Connection in October 2005. I asked for an Internet Plan, but they put me in single rate plan. When I got a bill for 6716/- They said the units was 2123 which means I have used 2123 MB of data transfer and after a discount of 1 GB , they have charged 5/- per MB and hence the bill is 6716.When I lodged a complaint back, they ignored my complaint. They did nt respond afterwards..My credit limit was just 1000/-, so i asked them why they did not intimate me in advance.After 2 months a person called Harsha (9243199169) contacted me. Then I asked Harsha for an itemized bill, then he called me to their office in Koramangala and I talked to the Manager Arjun then one more person showed the itemized bill it in the system . I asked them how they calculate how much usage I do per day and he saidas they said they could not get a print out of it.. I asked him how they calculate the usage, for which he said they system itself calculates, so my bill amount is correct.Then I asked them to give a break up of the bill in terms of how much MB I have used in a day. For which they said they would mail it to my e-mail id. Then after that there was no response from them.
After 2 weeks a person by name Arun from Tata Indicom called me and said that I can surrender the instrument if I am not using them. Then when he came to collect the instrument he asked me to pay 700 + 700 for 2 months as he said I used the connection.When I said no , he asked me to pay atleast 500/-. Then I asked him to produce the itemized bill with break up in MB and I would pay him immediately, he said he cant give it.This happened last month(May 2006). Now recently I got a mail from TATA INDICOM Legal Dept Sanjeev A Kumar for ordering me to pay 7615 as it is outstanding from December 2005. If I dont pay I have to face legal charges for non payment of the bill.This I find ridiculous, when my complaint about the bill payment is now over from their end , how could they send me such a threatining mail..Can anyone help me in how to proceed further. How do I approach the consumer court and put them in trouble.

Guess I also have only negatives to add to this bunch. I had applied for a connection from Mr.Gupta in BTM 1st stage.He assured me that the connection will be up and running in 7 working days(I applied on 27-05-2006)and till date there is no connection and nobody has come to my place yet.
Called up the customer care(should have time to do this because average wait time for some "angel" to pick up the receiver varies from 10-20 min) and they did not find the details of my application in the database!
I had paid with a cheque which was cashed on 5th working day after I had submitted the application (02-06-2006) and the customer care did not have the details of the cheque either.
After repeated arguments with the customer care, a Mr.Rajesh said that he will send a mail to Bangalore office with all the details but I have not received any update(this happened on 07-06-2006 or 08-06-2006 ).
On the top of it, Mr.Gupta has now STOPPED receiving my calls!!
AFter trying his number for 2 days incessantly, somebody picked it up finally after I tried it for the 7th time in a row and said that he was out of station and had left his cell behind (the voice seemed like Mr.Gupta's own though).
My money is gone down the drain for sure but
I would request everybody around NOT TO GO FOR TATA INDICOMM connection.

I got a TATA INDICOM Landline (080 56999107)Connection in October 2005. I asked for an Internet Plan, but they put me in single rate plan. I am an “unfortunate” customer of TATA INDICOM from VSNL. My login id is guptakr@eth.net . You might be wondering as to why I refer to myself as “unfortunate”. The reason is because I had the mistake of taking 24 hours broadband connection from VSNL on 18 may 2005. Firstly the installation took more than 4 weeks after my payment in the month of April 2005.After that almost every week I have to complain to customer service about no link/ unable to browse/slow speed etc. In a span of one year I have made close to 60 complains( 3 in the last 5 days)! This speaks a lot about the service. Calling up the customer service is again a check on one’s patience as the average time of waiting is 10-12 minutes; it is only after that one is able to speak to acustomer service executive who would promise to resolve the complain “within 24hours” provided it is a weekday ! If it is a weekend then the people would be off duty (after all it is service industry!).This is the first customer service number (55500121)that I have seen which on dialing ,you get a message"Number does not exist!)I would highly appreciate if someone could enlighten me on the following points so that I would know what to expect and what not to expect from such highly esteemed organization
1) Q1 ) How many days in a week/ month should the 24 hours connection not work?
2) Q2) How much time should a customer wait after calling up customer care? )
3) Q3) If the customer care executive can not resolve your recurring problem would there be anyone else in the hierarchy to whom the customer can talk to? .On a very few occasions I have been very fortunate to speak to the floor supervisors who have been of no help either. Generally I have been told that floor supervisors are busy in a meeting, at times even late at night!)
4) Q4) If the connection stops working on Saturday afternoon can it not be restored before Monday?
Q5) If the internet connection is always at a less than the promised 256 kbps at times as low as 150 kbps would it still qualify to be called a broadband?
I had the honour of making 3 Complains in the last 5 days for non avalability of service. I have lost out on my patience by making so many calls which on an average lasts around 15 minutes. Although my father had a very high regard for Tata &VSNL and was instrumental in our taking this connection now even he is lost all respect for this organisation which now neither works as a govt. body nor as a private sector player, it has taken worse of both the worlds .

TATA INDICOM SUCKS.............they DONT give you the connection nor the MONEY BACK even after TWO MONTHS.
I paid 3.5K ........ imagin if 1000 subscribe ??????? and look at the INTEREST FREE capital they gain ????????? Am planning to sue those *ç&*"#@ once i come back to India

I have gone back to the Golden Era of Sify whose service is not as erratic as yours trust me. There time for resolving the issue is quite quicker then yours and their helpline takes 2 mins maximum to reach out their CCE.
Calling uo tata help line takes atleast 15 calls " your approx wait time is more then 12 mins so call again laters" and then 25 mins for cce to come online. That makes the calculation roughly to 50 rs everytime getting connecting for help. and the cost of broad band becomes so high that one has to think twice before calling help line.
To add more to it there is no one called as responsible in your customer feedback team to revert and despite sending some 15-20 mails. Not even a single mail is replied to. The harasment the customer has to go through is really very high.
Your down time exceeds all limits and has broken all the records till date or should i put it as it has been the best disconnection of broadband i have ever got.I would like to bring in record that other than the frequent disconnections, which was a major irritant, from 9th may 2006 there was no signal. Complaints with your customer service were lodged continuously over a period of 24 days, but to no avail. The service guy comes sees the connection and tells me that see sir its working fine and then when he is gone the connection also starts to flicker like a candle light and then goes away and then again its the process of getting connected to help line and this vicious cycle keeps on repeating for some time and after some time the some pple in the circle go out and then there is only a the customer and the help line and no one else appears.
I am also forwarding this mail to all known guys in IT industry here in Ahemdabad. Lets hope they dont make there customers run away becuase of the pathetic service experience i have gone through.

I too am a person who has been deeply anguished by services of TATA INDICOM and been trying to get a mail id of Ratan Tata or anyone else (like his PA) who can seek 2 mts of his time to read my complaint to him. I'd not like to add on to the mails given above as I have undergone almost all the service problems mentioned there. Hope someone in Tata Sons notices this. The sad thing is I have been more anguished by the fact that a well known brand like TATA that has exhuded confidence, belief and happiness for so many people for so many years is now being spoilt by people working for the group. These are more painful for me as a lot of senior members of my family have at some point or the other worked with TISCO & TELCO and have been proud of it. In fact even I have grown up being prowd of this. But today I have personally seen others in three parts of the country - Delhi Mumbai and Cochin speaking in disgusting tones about the brand. This removed the self assurance that I had given myself that delhi could be an isolated incidence. If anybody responsible and very highly placed in Tatasons sees this, I request you to respond or even send me a contact (direct or indirect) so that I could present my case without washing dirty linen in public. Please do not respond if you are even at the top level of mid-management as i have experienced these at higher levels in the company. I believe today that i the only person/s who could really be concerned about the brand TATA are either the family itself or the stakeholders sitting at the topmost levels and professionally active in the group.

Tata Idicom Broadband seems to have employed a ruthless
bunch of incompetent shammers and hypocrites.They invite
your feedback and when you do that-no one gives a damn !
I even wrote to a lady calledChritabelleNoronha,supposedly
the V.P.- Corporate Media and followed it up with a reminder-but she cared two hoots.Or maybe she does'nt exist-possibly she's a dummy.What really sucks is;that they

DO Not use TATA INDICOM Brodband Service, I was a customer from T/I Brodband more than 3 years, and after that changed to ARITEL Broadband service-Belive me it is good service, Customer Sercice is really good, they will taught me incase of router link failure, Like how to configure router according to your choice and most important point is- THERE SERVICE IS UNDERLINE CABLE so no matter for line cut-off or some thing else.
Inrespect of TATA brodband, their customer service executives are all bunch of jokers, they will commited you false and fake statement which is absouletly rediculas, and their cable connections are overhead and as a result line will got disconnected frquently due to wind,rain,thief.
SO DO NOT USE TATA INDICOM BRODBAND- AFTER SALES SERVICE IS WOOOOOOOOOOOOORST !!!!!!!
