Bharti planning big investment in Indian Telecom market
One of the most well known Telecom entities of India, Bharti Tele-Ventures (BTVL) has announced big plans about expanding their position in the Indian market. The company is aiming to invest around USD 1 Billion in the various services under the Airtel brand name during the current financial year. This is around a 15% improvement over the investment BTVL made last year, which came to around USD 875 million.
Majority of this investment from the company would go into expanding the mobile business, which in return brings the company its maximum revenues. Most of the customers of the company are related to this stream of Bharti’s business line. More and more cities are going mobile overtaking the number of local fixed line connections. This gives the company a huge opportunity to expand their customer base.
Rest of the investment would be used for expanding the company’s fixed line telephony service. Bharti provides telephone and broadband services through this line of business and is expanding at quite a hectic pace. Bharti JMD Rajan Mittal said in a statement about their business plans for this financial year: “We are expanding our fixed line operations in a big way. We are going to 20 new cities like Pune, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, and Jaipur.â€
Airtel happens to be the biggest GSM based mobile service provider and it would like to continue dominating this market while it faces strong competition from Hutch and BSNL. Essar recently made big inroads into this market when they purchased BPL Mobile for a record price for this field in the history of Indian Mobile Telephony.
